Ad of the Week: Last Year’s Lemons

This weeks Ad of the Week is from Superbowl LV. Last Year’s Lemons pokes fun at 2020 using the often cited saying “when life give you lemons, make lemonade”.

Taking inspiration from a year filled with DIY haircuts, postponed weddings and other inconvenient but widely relatable situations to promote the new Bud Light Seltzer Lemonade using last years lemonade.

The first Superbowl ad for Bud Light Seltzer Lemonade encouraged fans to turn a lemon of a play into Bud Light Seltzer Lemonade. When there was a turnover by either team during the match, fans watching the Superbowl could enter for a chance to win a case of Bud Light Seltzer Lemonade, by tweeting with #LemonsIntoLemonade and #Sweepstakes

Unlike many of the other ads on show which tip-toed around the elephant in the room, ‘Last Year’s Lemons’ chooses to challenge the past year head on, whilst it reminded all of us of what we have been through, it did not do it nostalgically, it brought a sense of unity and relief while making us laugh.
