Where Do Shopping Ads Appear In Search Results?

Shopping Campaign Ads are one of the many variations available to advertisers using the Google Ads Platform. They are the ideal advertising campaign if you’re a retailer and want to promote your online and local inventory to searchers and increase traffic to your website or local store. When compared to text ads, which display text only, Shopping ads show searchers a photo of your product, plus a title, price, store name, and more. These more visual ads give users a strong sense of the product you’re selling before they click the ad, which provides you with more qualified leads from around the web where potential customers can see what you’re selling.

Where Will Your Shopping Ads Appear In Search Results?

In short. Only at the top or to the right of search results.

Because shopping ads are delivered through a different campaign mechanism from text ads. In Google’s case, a user’s search query is matched to data included in merchants’ product catalogue feeds to create image-based ads that include the price, merchant name, reviews and offers. Therefore because of Google’s faith that they have met the searcher’s intent perfectly, they showcase these ads in prime positions. This is why the Shopping ads appear as either carousel ads at the top of the search results on mobile and desktop, or in the right column on the desktop in a block or in a “knowledge card.” Below is an example of desktop results and mobile results and how they look when displayed on the screen.

Shopping ads are feed-based and can also appear on Search Results pages as well as Image Search, on YouTube and on almost 3 million third-party sites.

How Do Shopping Campaigns and Shopping Ads Work

Shopping ads use your existing Merchant Center product data (not keywords) to decide how and where to show your ads. The product data you submit through Merchant Center contains details about the products you sell. Google will use these details to match a user’s search to your ads, making sure to show the most relevant products.

You can advertise your store and your products using 2 types of Shopping ads:

  • Product Shopping ads: These are created based on the product data that you submit in the Merchant Center.
  • Local inventory ads: These are created by combining product data and inventory data submitted in your Merchant Center account.
